Mac Kitchens is a family-owned kitchen design and remodeling studio in Allentown, Pennsylvania, designing custom kitchens across the Lehigh Valley since 1972. Every kitchen is designed by owner Doug MacGeorge, an NKBA Certified Kitchen Designer, who drafts it in professional 3D design software and then sees it through the build. You work with one designer from the first sketch to the finished room.
What a kitchen designer does (and why it matters)
A kitchen designer plans the room before anything is built. That covers the layout and work flow, the cabinetry and storage, the materials, and the lighting, and how all of it fits your space down to the inch. A good design is the difference between a kitchen that looks right on day one and one that still works for your family ten years later.
In the Lehigh Valley you'll find three kinds of help:
- Independent kitchen design studios, where a certified designer plans the room and often oversees the build.
- Remodeling contractors who handle construction and may offer design as part of the job.
- Cabinet showrooms that design around the cabinet lines they sell.
Mac Kitchens is a design studio that also builds and installs, so the person who designs your kitchen is accountable for how it turns out.
How to choose a kitchen designer in the Lehigh Valley
Ask these questions, whoever you talk to:
- Are they certified? The National Kitchen & Bath Association's Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD) credential means trained, tested experience in kitchen planning. Doug MacGeorge holds it.
- Will you see the design before anything is built? Look for a precise 3D design you can review and change. At Mac Kitchens every project starts as a 3D design in ProKitchen, professional kitchen-design software.
- Who builds it? Ask whether the designer stays involved after the drawings, or hands the job to a separate crew.
- Is the cabinetry custom or catalog? Know whether you're getting custom, semi-custom or stock cabinetry, and why. See our guide to custom vs. semi-custom cabinets.
- How long have they worked locally? Lehigh Valley homes have their own quirks, from older Allentown and Bethlehem houses to newer builds. Mac Kitchens has worked here since 1972.

The Mac Kitchens design process
- Consultation. We meet by appointment to understand your space, how you cook and gather, and your budget.
- 3D design. Doug draws your kitchen in ProKitchen, so you can see the layout, cabinetry and finishes and refine every detail before anything is built.
- Custom cabinetry. Cabinetry and storage are designed around how you use the room, down to the last drawer.
- Build and install. One team stays accountable from demolition to the day you cook your first meal.

Common questions
Who are the best kitchen designers in the Lehigh Valley? Look for a certified designer who shows you a 3D design before building and stays involved through the build. Mac Kitchens fits that description: an NKBA Certified Kitchen Designer, ProKitchen 3D design, and one designer from start to finish, in the Lehigh Valley since 1972.
What does NKBA certified mean? The National Kitchen & Bath Association awards the Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD) credential to designers who meet its experience and testing requirements in kitchen planning.
Do you only design, or also build? Both. Mac Kitchens designs the kitchen, supplies or builds the cabinetry, and manages the installation.
Do you design other rooms? Yes: bathrooms, closets and entertainment systems, outdoor cabinetry, and custom designs for offices, pantries, mudrooms and built-ins.
